MEMBERS MARKET A Public Market for Private Golf 55 LOTS ON THE BOARD · AUG 10 – AUG 17, 2026 Hello folks, Chicago Golf Club hardly ever comes up for auction, and this week there are two of its foursomes on the board at the same time. Both sit inside one charity auction that accounts for 32 of the 55 lots closing this week, and the bidding on it has barely started, with 27 of those still on one bid or none. Read the prices below as opening numbers rather than bargains, because what they turn into by Sunday is the actual story. Course SpotlightChicago Golf Club (CHCG)US No. 11 · IL No. 1 ![]()
We've tracked five sales of a Chicago Golf Club round, ever. Sleepy Hollow, which is also on the board this week, has come up twenty-five times, and that gap is the whole story of this lot. Charles Blair Macdonald built America's first eighteen-hole course for this club, and it's one of the five that founded the USGA. But the reason a round here so rarely reaches the auction market is simpler than the history: it has one of the smallest memberships of any top-ranked club in the country. That scarcity is visible in what the club finishes at. Chicago averages $4,967 per player across those five sales, which is more than any other course on this week's board has ever averaged, and its best result reached $6,850. Right now we have two foursomes on it, at $625 and $750 per player. Those are opening numbers, and there is a lot of distance between them and anywhere this course has finished before. Market InsightWhat looks like one board is really three auctions at different stages. The lots closing Tuesday sit 17% under their own history, while the ones in Sunday's charity auction sit 73% under. The only two lots on the board trading above their own average both close Tuesday, Watchung Valley among them at $467 per player. That's the arc Sunday's lots still have ahead of them, so a 73% discount isn't a bargain yet.
